Congratulations to the recipients of the 2008 ACS Young Investigator and CCSG Developmental Funding Awards!
Young Investigator Awards
The annual Young Investigator Awards, sponsored by the American Cancer Society (ACS), provides $20,000 for the initiation of promising new projects by junior faculty members so they can obtain preliminary results, which will enable them to compete successfully for national research grants.
- Dr. Rebecca Riggins: "Exposure to the Endocrine Disruptor Bisphenol A Induces Tamoxifen Resistance in ER+ Breast Cancer Through Transcriptional Activation of Estrogen Related Receptor Gamma."
Please note, there will be a recompete for the remaining Young Investigator Awards. Applications are due September 2.
Developmental Funding Awards
The purpose of the CCSG Developmental Funding Award is to encourage synergy among investigators, both within and across programs, and to foster new collaborations. Each of the research teams will receive $40,000 to support these innovative research programs.
- Drs. Robert Glazer, Stephen Byers, M. Blair Marshall, and Xiaoyang Wang: "Tumor Stem Cell Signaling in Primary Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer (NSCLC)"
- Drs. G. Ian Gallicano, Partha M. Banerjee, and Christopher Albanese: "Narrowing the Definition of the Prostate Cancer Stem Cell"
- Drs. Celia Byrne and Bassem Haddad: "Role of NOS in Breast Cancer: A Feasibility Study"
